Figure 5-Total Health Expenditures as a Percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP): Selected OECD Countries, 1970-1989

This line graph shows the GDP percent from 1970 to 1989 for the United States, France, Canada, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom. With the exception of the United States, all other countries stabilized their spending in the late eighties. The United States' GDP continued to rise in 1989 to almost 12%.
